Students Need A WISH List To Start Their School Year

With any journey of discovery, there are going to be challenges and set-backs along the way. In school, students face challenges from a number off directions. These include intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

Specifically, student's are challenged when certain conditions naturally emerge. Priorities clash, time is limited, concepts get deeper, and expectations (self-imposed and by others) become greater.

What do you do when it seems hard?

One thing you can do to prepare for the challenges that inevitably appear is to make a WISH (When It Seems Hard) list. Keeping your WISH list manageable is important, so here is a 4 WISH template with which to start.
  1. What were your 3 biggest challenges in school last year?
  2. What do you think will be your 3 biggest challenges this year?
  3. What did you do last year to address your challenges that worked?
  4. What will you need to do differently this year and who is available to help you?
The WISH list works for teachers as well as students. It could even be a wonderful project you do together in a homeroom, advisory, or as an extra class exercise.
