Teachers, are your students at the center or is the curriculum/tests/grades your focus?
Every teacher I know started off as student-centered. Unfortunately, for many if not all of us, there are moments when the pressure to serve grades, points, tests, etc. becomes the focus. We spend more time preparing, reviewing, and grading tests than using the feedback to guide the learning. We end up putting the cart before the horse.
Here is the good news. On Monday (or tomorrow or right now), there will be a student in front of you (literally or figuratively) who needs your help. You can always get back on track. You have the power to refocus on what is most important.
It may be hard. It may take tremendous effort. You may need the support of your peers. However, the student-centered focus is always welcomed back.
